“Flux”
Kate's signature "Glitch" artworks in this series mirror the perpetual motion of life. The dynamic compositions symbolize the ever-flowing state of the universe, which exists beyond our control. Tova directs our focus towards nature and its inherent power. While plants may appear still to us, they are in a constant state of flux: blooming, changing colors, breathing, and fading.
Kate draws inspiration from Georgia O'Keeffe's portrayals of flowers, treating them as portraits. However, Kate approaches them with a more dynamic perspective: the radiant compositions are bold, powerful, and unstoppable. They redefine femininity in the modern world.
Tova's unique process celebrates the juxtaposition of nature and technology in the Bay Area. Over the course of four years, Kate has collected photo references of plants and California landscapes. For each painting, she constructs a digital bouquet using the gathered images to evoke certain emotions. The bouquet is then distorted using 3D software and painted onto canvas.

In this painting I explore this strong and barely controllable emotion of passion. It takes over our minds and bodies when we do something we love or when we are madly attracted to someone. I'm interested in this feeling of being out of control and how it rewards us or punishes us.

In a modern society the word "want" is equal to "desire". We no longer just want things. We constantly desire to have something or for something to happen. I’m interested in exploring such a strong feeling that rarely leaves us. So many of us become hostage to it till we feel like we are about to burst with the amount of desires in our head.

The piece is dominated by bold and vibrant colors of red, yellow and blue, which signify the passion, energy, and strength that comes with taking bold steps towards one's dreams. The artwork invites us to reflect on the role of courage in shaping our lives, reminding us that true growth and success often come from stepping outside our comfort zone and taking risks. Through its vivid colors and a powerful composition, "Courage Glitch" celebrates the magic of perseverance and the transformative potential of courage.
The artwork was painted during a challenging time in my life when I needed to muster up the bravery before a major project with Cadillac and the big decision of moving my parents to San Francisco to be safe during Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The process of the piece was focused on color and emotion. I made a gestural sketch and distorted it in 3D software.
