Equine

2015 - 2018

“STRATA”

11″ x 14″

Oil on artboard

2016

I had the pleasure of painting Strata, a gorgeous Friesian horse, at the beautiful Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

“THE MEMORY”

40″ x 60″

Oil on canvas

2016

From the “Fight or Flight” series. The feeling of falling with a dream inspired this series of paintings. As universally known as it is visceral, this feeling captures us at our most vulnerable. Horses also dream, and I became interested in the idea of horses sharing this dream with humans. In this series of paintings I also want to show that these powerful, strong and free creatures can be so fragile and fearful at the same time.

“RUBY”

16″ x 20″

Oil on Wood

2018

Painting of a black Spanish horse.

“HEAVEN”

12″ x 16″

Oil on Canvas

2017

“BALANCE”

24″ x 36″

Oil on Canvas

2016

This artwork shows different kinds of balance: the balance of nature, of sky and earth, of color, and of light and dark. The woman standing on her toes on top of the horse’s back is balancing herself physically. The moon on the background makes the artwork balanced even though it also makes it asymmetrical. The balance in this painting represents a natural peace and calmness. The work was inspired following a trip to the Southwestern United States.

“AFTERLIGHT”

14″ x 18″

Oil on Panel

2016

“LUSITANOS IN RIO ZÊZERE”

20″ x 16″

Oil on Panel

2016

This artwork is made using a glazing technique. Initially it was painted in black and white and after the paint was dry, thin colored layers were applied. Lusitanos are my favorite horse breed and on this painting I wanted to capture them in their native land of Portugal, bathing in the river Zezere.
